4 broken dpns in 12 hours...How did it happen?

Look closely at this sock...just an average sock...as I'm working on the toe at 5 am on this lovely snowy/sleety morning. The hubby and kiddos are asleep, and I'm in the living room in my comfy chair, with my quilt, a cup of coffee, my sock knitting, and I'm watching The Pink Panther.

Let's start with last night. Sam was in our bed watching Scooby Doo, and he rolled over a dpn that I had on my lap...it broke, it's not his fault. Now to this morning...I'm knitting along, excited about finishing up this sock, and snap! I broke another dpn, ROSEWOOD size O...OK, blame it on my excitement? I'm not stressed, and didn't take the Vicodin this am for the abscessed tooth, so it wasn't a pharmaceutical reason. Snap again...and AGAIN!!! I broke 3...yes, 3 rosewood dpns within a 2 hour span. Sigh. I love these needles, and I can't figure out what I did wrong, but I'll rethink getting rosewood again, since I've done this. You read it here...within a 12 hour span I broke 4 dpns...a first for me.
And here's the sleet/snow outside...about a foot...the front door has a drift in front of it that is covered in ice, so I'm unable to open it. The kiddos will have a ball shoveling later.

Oh, I'm a bad girl...I shopped online for yarn

Sigh...I went online to window shop for yarn...next thing I know, I've bought this huge skein from Perchance To Knit, an Etsy shop. I couldn't help it! It called out to me, but not really.
Just wanted to share this superwash merino with you...you've got to visit this Etsy shop!

A Bunch of New Sock Yarn Arrived!!! Wahoo!!!

Oh my...I have received the most wonderful April Fool's package from Elaine in Mass. I am truly amazed and spoiled by her!

I want to share with you what I received...and it was NOT ugly yarn, at least not to me! I LOVE THESE COLORS!!!
OK: I received 2 skeins of Lorna's Laces in Purple Iris, with a Purple Iris sock pattern, 2 skeins of Sockotta in purple/blue and pink/yellow colorways,4 small body lotions, cute stitch markers for sock needle sizes, Sock It To Me! Issue #2, Size 1&2 wooden Surina dpns, 2 skeins of Regia bamboo yarn (it's my favorite and I've been lusting after this exact yarn!!!!), a skein of wild Trekking XXL (again, I love the color), 2 bags of Dove chocolates (yumm-o) a KIPer tool bag, a SockItToMe Converter Guide (I've wanted one of these!), a small notebook journal with a matching pen...AND 2 skeins of hand-dyed yarn in a mint green and a multicolor. Wow! My family isn't "into" yarn, so I called a knitty friend in California to help me ooh and ahhh over the goodies!
Thank you Elaine!!! YOU are an awesome knitty person! YOUR box is also filled and ready to be sent out tomorrow! I hope you like it!!!
P.S. Yes, the snow is coming down...fast. We're in for the night. Knitting time...like I said, time for Tollhouse Choc. Chip cookies and a cup of hot coffee. Antibiotics have kicked in, and I feel fine. :)
P.S.S. I read a wonderful knitting blog...would you look at her Monkey Socks!!! Beautiful...and also the rest of her knitting is just as nice.

Tooth, Sock Update, and Our Impending Storm!

I'm finishing the foot on my SKS blue socks, and hope to finish it completely today, so I can cast on my Monkey Socks, and socks for Sam, my son.
I've been feeling under the weather, with headaches, ear aches, and feeling generally ill the past few days...and yesterday, I found out the culprit...an abscessed tooth! It's #21, the one that is scheduled for an implant in 2 weeks. Bad, bad tooth. So...with antibiotics and Vicodin, I'm a happy camper. Much happier.
We're expecting a Nor'Easter here, starting tonight...it was 72 degrees here on Wednesday, and now they're telling us that a whopper storm with 6-10 inches of snow then sleet will arrive starting this evening. Blah! So, time to stock up on some munchies, coffee, cookie dough, and sit and knit.

I am a Chocolate Cake, Of Course!

You Are a Chocolate Cake

Fun, comforting, and friendly.
You are a true classic, and while you're not super cutting edge, you're high quality.
People love your company - and have even been known to get addicted to you.
What Kind of Cake Are You?

I'm so excited...I have my Monkey Sock pal assignment!!! I've read her blog, and now it's time to find the perfect yarn for her socks! Of course, I'll need to add to my stash too...perhaps.
I've heard it said that sock yarn doesn't count as stash...I hope that it is true. :)
In other knitting matters....I've signed up for the 2 day workshop with Lucy Neatby in June at Harrisville Designs, here in NH. It looks wonderful!

Monkey Sock Madness

OK, I did it. I joined the Monkey Swap...yes, to knit Monkey Socks.
Isn't this pattern awesome? It looks fun, yet challenging. I have sock yarn begging to be used, and it looks like the monkey theme is right up my alley...or, in other words, a perfect fit for my personality! For this swap, I'll need to:

1. Knit a pair of Monkey Swaps for my Monkey Pal.
2. Include THREE 'monkey' items in my package.
3. Include one knitting gadget.
4. Mail your package by April 30th.

Want to be a Monkey Pal? Sign-ups will be open until March 15th. Send Rebecca an email to sign up.

Tonight is knitting night...a friend and I meet at a local Panera Bread to have chai and knit without guilt. I have an earache today...hopefully it will be done by this evening, and to knitting I will go!

Good Things Come in Threes...

I had a triple surprise from the postlady today...3 boxes of yarn goodies! First, I received my order of 2 skeins of Regia Bamboo, 2 skeins of Apple Laine Aqua (both for socks), and size 2 rosewood dpns from The Loopy Ewe. I love shopping there...the owner, Sheri, always sends a personal written message along, and samples of their yarns, along with printed cardstock needle inventory cards, and all the goodies are individually wrapped in tissue paper, so it's like your birthday whenever receiving a box from there!Second, my first shipment of The Sweet Sheep Sock club arrived today, with a skein of Sweet Socks in the Spring Tulip colourway, along with a sheep stitchmarker from KnitWit Momma, and 2 sample sizes of Soak wool wash.
LASTLY, I received a box of purple goodies from Julie P. in NY for the FCS2 swap! It's absolutely a wonderful spoiler box of goodies! Let's see: a milk chocolate "K", 2 packages of Amethyst glass beads with flowers, a pair of cool Rave knitting needles, a beautiful purple butterfly votive candle holder, Yankee grape scented candles, TWO skeins of Paton's "That's Purple" merino wool to felt with, a big container of Knit Wash, Wysteria wool roving, AND a chocolate rose in a chocolate vase! Oh, and a hilarious card about Reality vs. Martha Stewart gardening. Thank you, Julie!

In other knitting matters, I've just about finished the cuff of THE second sock in the Austermann Step (see previous post)...and that's about it here in NH. :)
