Monkey Socks and Toby's Vet Visit

These are my Monkey Socks as I work on the foot...they are Lorna's Laces sportweight in Purple Iris. The yarn was from an Ugly Yarn swap...I think it's a gorgeous colorway! My photos are dark, the colors are much prettier in person. Perhaps I should put my socks on my azalea bush outside to get a better color to post. I would like to knit these next in a fingering weight, though. It is a fun and easy pattern.
I took Toby to the vets today for his annual physical...He's up to 127 lb at 11 yrs old...He's a fat German Shepherd mix, and needs to lose weight, but he's losing use of his back legs, and he fell out of the Suburban at the vet's office...I think the trauma was the straw that broke the camel's back..we're waiting to see if he can use his back legs, or if this problem will progress...time for puppy heaven. He's a good pup...and hubby's buddy. We're using a towel to help support his hind legs while going up and down the two steps outside, and moved his bed downstairs. We'll see how things go over the next few days.
Back to my sock knitting! Kiddos are in bed.

Look what is finding a home with me...

Oops, I went too close to the etsy shops again...check out what I found at thankewe.etsy.com

This is how it's described by it's crafter Sonja: "lovely Apeldoorn Tulip Superwash Wool Sock Yarn. Looks like it is made from Apeldoorn tulips, BUT it's hand dyed yarn, 75% superwash wool and 25% nylon for extra wear and machine washability. The gauge is 7-8 stitches on size #1-#3 needles. Color fast. Machine wash, lay flat to dry. 100 grams/440 yards. One skein is enough for an adult medium pair of socks. Great for any knitting or crochet."
I think this is a gorgeous colorway, and I can't wait to see how it feels.

To the Frog Pond I Went...

Yes, on the 5th round of the Monkey Sock lace pattern, I saw something that I didn't like, some sort of error that could have been left, but once I saw it, it had to come out...and in reality, I think my gauge loosened up a bit, so while I frogged my sock, I went down a needle size...I think it looks better, overall. There's usually a good reason for frogging. No pics yet.
In sock yarn stash news, my Claudia's Handpainted in "Caribbean Blue" and All Things Heather "Oceania" arrived from my favorite sock store, the infamous Loopy Ewe. Yummy yarns.
DID I MENTION I FINISHED MY SKS DURING THE SNOWSTORM THIS PAST WEEKEND? Here they are above and to the left.
I wore my soft socks to the homeschool co-op today, of course showing them off. So soft, and I really can't believe I made a pair of socks all by myself, or that the Lord allowed my to. I will need to make a pair for my Sonshine Pal at church, who put socks on her questionnaire. Perhaps. If I can get better at this.

Monday Meanderings

I've cast on my Monkey Sock for my swap yesterday, and I'm currently on #3 of 7 lace pattern rounds. It IS a fun pattern...I had no idea that it would be fun...I originally tried it as a challenge...and I hope I think it's still fun when I'm through with it. I also am trying to resize this pattern with the gracious help and suggestions of knitters who have already done this, so I'll see what the finished product is like. I'm ready to cast on a pair for myself and my SP10 pal, but I'll wait and see.

Tooth, Sock Update, and Our Impending Storm!

I'm finishing the foot on my SKS blue socks, and hope to finish it completely today, so I can cast on my Monkey Socks, and socks for Sam, my son.
I've been feeling under the weather, with headaches, ear aches, and feeling generally ill the past few days...and yesterday, I found out the culprit...an abscessed tooth! It's #21, the one that is scheduled for an implant in 2 weeks. Bad, bad tooth. So...with antibiotics and Vicodin, I'm a happy camper. Much happier.
We're expecting a Nor'Easter here, starting tonight...it was 72 degrees here on Wednesday, and now they're telling us that a whopper storm with 6-10 inches of snow then sleet will arrive starting this evening. Blah! So, time to stock up on some munchies, coffee, cookie dough, and sit and knit.

Monkey Sock Madness

OK, I did it. I joined the Monkey Swap...yes, to knit Monkey Socks.
Isn't this pattern awesome? It looks fun, yet challenging. I have sock yarn begging to be used, and it looks like the monkey theme is right up my alley...or, in other words, a perfect fit for my personality! For this swap, I'll need to:

1. Knit a pair of Monkey Swaps for my Monkey Pal.
2. Include THREE 'monkey' items in my package.
3. Include one knitting gadget.
4. Mail your package by April 30th.

Want to be a Monkey Pal? Sign-ups will be open until March 15th. Send Rebecca an email to sign up.

Tonight is knitting night...a friend and I meet at a local Panera Bread to have chai and knit without guilt. I have an earache today...hopefully it will be done by this evening, and to knitting I will go!
